Sedation Dentistry Helps Patients Through Their Dental Anxiety

Dental anxiety is a very real condition that can make it difficult for many people to even think about visiting a periodontist. Some people get up the courage to make the appointment but then cancel at the last minute. Whether your anxiety comes from some unknown place you have had a previous bad experience in the dental chair, Dr. Curry Leavitt and the team at Red Rock Periodontics & Implantology are here to help make your visit a relaxing one through sedation dentistry.

Common Sedation Options

Dr. Leavitt offers a variety of sedation options to meet the needs of different patients. Perhaps you only have mild anxiety when seeing a periodontist, or maybe it is a paralyzing fear. Maybe you do not have anxiety but suffer from a sensitive gag reflex. We can help find the right sedation option so you can get the dental treatment you need to stay healthy and smiling confidently:

  • Oral: Take this pill an hour before treatment, and you should feel relaxed the whole way through. You might not even remember the appointment afterward!
  • IV: Usually used for more complex procedures, IV sedation is administered directly into the bloodstream and can put you slightly under or all the way under.
  • Local: A local anesthetic numbs the area Dr. Leavitt will be working on. This involves the use of a syringe.
  • Nitrous oxide: This relaxing gas is often used in combination with another form of sedation. It does not numb the body but can help you feel calmer during treatment.
