Sedation Options to Soothe You
- IV Sedation
- Oral Sedation
- Nitrous Oxide
- Local Anesthesia
Administered intravenously, IV sedation induces a sleep-like state. If you suffer from dental anxiety, this is one of the best options for you, because you won’t feel anything during treatment or remember any part of the procedure afterward.
This option also induces a sleep-like state but is delivered in pill form. Since you won’t feel or remember most of your treatment this option may be a good choice if you suffer from severe dental anxiety.
Sometimes called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide will keep you alert but calm for the duration of your procedure. You inhale the gas through a mask before your treatment begins.
This form of anesthesia is applied directly to or injected into the treatment site to numb the area.
The Real Risks of Dental Anxiety
In using these various sedation methods, it’s Dr. Leavitt’s goal not only to help you avoid pain and fear during office visits, but to help you avoid the deeper dangers of dental anxiety. The truly scary part of dentistry is what can happen if you fail to maintain your dental health through good hygiene and regular checkups and cleanings. At any given time, you may not have any discomfort and assume that your teeth are in perfect health. You may even experience some minor symptoms that you choose to ignore. Unfortunately, minor dental health issues that go untreated can become major ones over time. You may end up with a far more serious condition than you might’ve had if you’d sought out help earlier, and need to undertake more complex, invasive, and expensive treatment. The best way to avoid all of these is to stay on top of your dental health. Dr. Leavitt has the tools that can help you do that without fear!
